This is a lion Melibe (AKA: "hooded nudibranch" or the "lion mane nudibranch"), a kind of predatory snails, and a snail, which is a marine gastropod mollusk of the family Tethydidae. I shot about 25 meters in depth during the dive on the western side of the southern tip of the island of Santa Cruz, California (Near Smugglers Cove). The tissues of the animal seemed to be very similar to a jellyfish, but with the tail and back, not unlike a fish. TheOur dive boat captain (Joe Cochran) Raptor Dive Charters has lived in the area for over 51 years, and said he must have seen anything like it before. The same was true for all other divers have demonstrated this. After contacting several marine biologists, I could see was what kind of organism. Thanks Location: southern tip of the island of Santa Cruz, CA (Near Smuggler's Cove) Equipment: Canon WP-DC21 G9 Waterproof Case. Set "Macro". www.scott-industries.com
